Seri Nyonya Peranakan Restaurant @ Equatorial Melaka

Part of my holidays, is to go and eat !!! I love eating, my kids love eating, hubby loves eating.... so we would make sure there is somewhere that we would go just for eating.

At Melaka, on a recent trip, we stayed at Hotel Equatorial Melaka. I ate here before, that was like 9 years ago perhaps, at this restaurant and it was good. So I wanted to see, if it is still good.

Just look at the pictures......

Look at the cup they used for water !!!

Those days, people use this to gargle after brushing teeth !!

Old china plates

Some snacks for appertizers ?

Sunflower seeds

Famous Otak-otak or "brain brain" made of fish flakes

Yes, you must order a lot of dishes !!

and just get fat :)

This is a nyonya specialty i.e. Ayam Pongteh

inside of the restaurant

they used this to put the rice too.

Awesome isn't it ? Price is a bit steep but good food don't come cheap these days.....so if you are in Melaka and want to try some Nyonya food is a proper restaurant environment, come to Hotel Equatorial Melaka. What I can say is, the food is as good as it was 9 years ago . Awesome :)

Hotel Equatorial Melaka

Hello my friends, or rather "kawan kawan" in Malay,

And so I have decided to pop to Melaka for a short weekend. Actually it is more of a druve around and eat weekend ....in Malaysia, we call it " Jalan Jalan Cari Makan " or in English, " Drive / walk around on food journey " .....we do that a lot in Malaysia.... we just LOVE eating !!!

So I stayed at a local International Chain hotel, Hotel Equatorial Melaka. Situated right smack in the city, there are shopping malls in front of the hotel and also there is also the Monument Square where any big events would be held.

Meaning, it is perfect for me. Shopping Mall in front, they have a huge pool, and I can walk to Jonkers Street at night too.

Now, as you probably  know now, I have 02 kids travelling with me every time, and also a nanny. So I have to take a bigger room or 02 rooms. Check out the photos :)

the address says it all......
The Address says it all

In front of the hotel, at night.

The view of the building from the pool side

View of the facade from across the street

You don't need big flowers for your hotel. Small ones like these....just nice.

A view of the Melaka town from 18th floor

The pool

Kiddies area

Tennis for some actions ?

Let's walk to my room

A sofa seating area....ok, so the furniture colours are a bit off :p

As you come in, the living hall with the dining table

Pardon my kids...they just needed to mark their territories.....

The view of the room from the bathroom

King size bed

Day Bed by the window

That's a shopping mall !!!!

The view of the room.....actually if you see the bedroom, that is how a normal Deluxe room would look like.

A clearer picture of the mall.

I like the antique fixture of the room

Extra pillows and blanket

Big safe box

*yay* I like rooms with DVD player

Complete toiletries

The only hotel that gives powder

The Jonker Walk

So my girl made this as her bed....

She said it feels princess thingy with the day drapes

another view from the room, you can see those tents over there, over at the square.

So, I have showed you the room and facilities. I had dinner at their Nyonya restaurant too. Do you want to see ? I will post it in another posting ok ?

Oh  yeah, please bear in mind, Melaka is FULL over the weekends or school holidays and long public holidays, so you could see some price hike and the city get jammed.
Now ,  my 02 cents worth of conclusion about this hotel :

  1. It is for BOTH,  Corporate and Leisure stay.
  2. They have big ballroom should you want to have any corporate events and stay here
  3. They also cater for the leisure travellers, being in the city and have the resort feeling
  4. Children friendly
  5. Value for money
  6. I don't really fancy the breakfast spread, but they have nice Deli outside at the lobby and a street deli just outside, so just go there.

Now, these are all my thoughts ya, you may like it, and you may don't.....but with the school hols coming, Melaka could be a choice ?

Historical City of Malaysia ~ Melaka

Hello everyone,

I am sure everyone in Malaysia knows Melaka. Melaka or the English spelling ( Malacca ) is famous with Singaporeans , as it is only 2+ hours driving down from Singapore. Melaka is also famous among Indonesians, for the Medical Tourism.....in fact, Melaka has now an International Airport, mainly catering for the Indonesian small airlines.

For those coming from KL city centre, it would take about slightly more than 2 hours to get to Melaka town itself too. So you can see why people seems to think it is a great place to go for a short break of 1 or 2 nights.

I grew up leaning about Melaka. You know, how Parameswara was sleeping under a tree, then that's how he decided to name Melaka as what it is , then about Princess Hang Li Poh that came to Melaka , then the Portuguese invasion etc etc.... oh well, I kind of like History when I was back in school.

Melaka has been given the UNESCO Award for its history. So yes, it is an international acclaimed city. Now, in the town centre itself, the state government has declared it as a non-smoking area. Cool ya ?

A lot of people, mostly locals go to Melaka for the food feast ! If you can eat pork, then you would even like it there. Asam Pedas is a local favourite, Chicken Rice Ball is another one.....then when you walk at the Jonker Street night market, you would see hand crafts or little things that for sure would make you buy.

Along the streets, you would see old colonial buildings, owned by the Chinese Baba & Nyonya. You would see they still keep the old elements, but what I like is to see the karaoke places, where the oldies, would spend time there singing their hearts out....so when you walk along , for sure you would stop and listen....or even, you could see the ladies, doing the line dancing or "poco-poco" . So for sure it would be an entertaining walk.

End of the street, you would see Chinese Opera show. It is cool, but please bear in mind, a walk at night, is still hot !!!

Then if you stay at hotels further away, yes, you can go on the trishaw or "beca". They would ask you for RM15 to RM30 depending on the locations. But you can nego , of course.

Anyway, I have blog before about Casa Del Rio, Melaka in my earlier posting.  I will post another hotel, which I have stayed recently in my next posting.

Till then.

xoxo.
